East Lake

The East Lake Residence in Montauk is a modern interpretation of the local Long Island vernacular, designed to celebrate indoor/outdoor living. Two parallel gable volumes are oriented toward Lake Montauk and gently skewed to frame a dynamic outdoor setting with a swimming pool, hot tub, and expansive decks.

The primary gable volume houses the open-plan kitchen, dining, and living spaces, featuring cathedral ceilings, exposed collar ties, and a seamless connection to a covered porch. The secondary gable volume accommodates five bedrooms, each with ensuite baths, ensuring privacy and comfort. A central shed-roofed entry volume links the two wings, creating a dramatic arrival sequence where the water view is revealed immediately upon entry.

Traditional cedar shingle roofs crown the gable forms, while standing seam metal roofs define the shed volumes, blending traditional finishes with contemporary expression. The facade combines painted vertical siding with clapboard siding, enhancing the architectural contrast. Interiors are kept light and bright, providing a crisp backdrop for vibrant artwork and modern furnishings. The East Lake Residence balances tradition and modernity, embracing Montauk's coastal landscape while providing a retreat for contemporary living.
